A Memorable Memorial Day

I knew Dad was going to be in
today's Memorial Day Parade.

I started looking for him.

I almost missed him!

He was riding in back
in the Grand Marshall's Jeep!

At the final ceremony
(there were three)
the Navy caught up with Dad

and asked him if he would like to stand
with them for the ceremony.  :)

Happily Give Thanks!

I had some ideas of Thanksgiving posts this month.
One of those ideas is in draft - a very long draft.
I'm thankful for so much.  As I get older, the list grows longer.

Besides all the wonderful blessings I have now,
above and over all is the grateful assurance
of my heavenly home.
Thank You, dear Jesus.

Psalm 106.1
Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord
for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

 1 Thessalonians 5.18
In every thing give thanks:
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Still Giving Thanks, November Eleventh

That is my father, on
the right.
To his right is
one of several people
that Grandma provided
a home for, besides of
her own children.

I'm so thankful for
those men and
women who served
and are serving.

I'm so thankful for sleep! :)

Ha!  I was so sleepy
I forgot to publish this one!

A Little Giving of Thanks, November Eighth

In the Path
I found these bright leaves in our
path, this morning.

I am a detail person.
I have difficulty focusing
on the big picture.
I notice details so much they
become the picture, to me.

Although the whole glorious morning
blessed me, having two yellow
leaves on the browns and greys
of our path, caught my attention.

I feel so grateful for bright spots.
Have you noticed them?
In the midst of trouble
you may hear beautiful music.
When life seem impossible
one thing will be just perfect,
reminding us that God is so
great, so wonderful
that every detail
is covered.

I'm so thankful for that. :)

A Little Giving of Thanks, November Seventh

This is the coloring page I was
trying to get when I printed
the turkey picture.

To me it signifies abundance.

Now, I struggle with what I think
is called hoarding.
One might say the overabundance
of
goods readily available  to me
has made a problem.

There has usually been an
abundance of food for me.
Even though I need to
slim down, I am so thankful
for abundant food.

There is, and has been an
abundance of love in my life.
I am loved by family and
church family -- so many
people on Earth and
gone before that I'm not
sure I could count them.

How grateful I am for
abundant love.

There are other things
I could list, but the greatest
is
grace.

Grace sufficient.

Life abundant.

I don't know if there is
a Bible verse that backs up
this thought, but
I'm so thankful for
abundant grace.

When I have stumbled,
fallen, acted out,
dissapointed...
all those places where
I fall short,
which is in every way,
really,
there is still grace.

No matter how many people
need grace and how much
of it we need
there is enough.

Wow!

Thank you, God! :)

A Little Giving of Thanks, November Sixth

As was crafting some little stars, today,
I thought of how thankful I am for stars.

No, not my little crafted stars, but the
real ones and what they represent
to me.

Stars often seem dim and insignificant,
though very pretty.
The stars that accompanied me
on my short walks around the
sanctuary building when I was
in Bible school looked closer
and interested me.
When I could not see them,
their light often softened
the cloudy dark.

Of course we know that stars are
not dim.  Their light is so strong
that it reaches us from far away.

Perhaps, sometimes,
God's plan seems dim.
We can not see it fully because
of the thoughts that cloud
our own atmosphere.

The plan is still in place.
Our Father is still in control.

These things are true
whether we see them
or not.

I'm giving thanks
that we can know this.

A Little Giving of Thanks, November Fifth

Okay, this may sound odd and a little "preachy."
What I'm thankful for today floated to the surface
again because I made an error in printing out the
coloring page and got the turkey.

It reminded me of how sidetracked some people
become about the holiday, Thanksgiving.

I get irritated when people refer to
"Turkey Day."
Worse, someone I knew used to call
it "National Pig Out Day."

PLEASE!
It's not about the turkey
or the dressing.

It's not about the family
or the football.

It's not about the pilgrims
or any historical feasts.
Thanksgiving is about giving thanks.
Specifically, we give thanks to God
for His provision of, well everything!
There is so much to be thankful for,
from salvation (the big thing)
to every breath we take.
 (That's no small thing!)

I guess to sum it up, I could say,
"I'm thankful to be thankful." :)

A Little Giving of Thanks, November Fourth

My father, my nephew who went
out of his way to visit and my sister,
who may not have known
she was in the shot,
taken yesterday :)

FOR THE BEAUTY OF THE EARTH

by John Rutter

For the joy of human love,

Brother, sister, parent, child,

friends of earth, and friends above,

For all gentle thoughts and mild:

Lord of all to thee we raise this our joyful hymn of praise.

For each perfect gift of thine

to our race so freely given,

Graces human and divine,

Flow'rs of earth and buds of heav'n:

Lord of all to thee we raise this our joyful hymn of praise.

A Little Giving of Thanks November Third

FOR THE BEAUTY OF THE EARTH

by John Rutter

For the beauty of the earth;

For the beauty of the skies,

For the love which from our birth

over and around us lies:

Lord of all, to thee we raise this our joyful hymn of praise.

For the beauty of each hour

of the day and of the night,

Hill and vale and tree and flower,

Sun and moon and stars of light:

Lord of all, to thee we raise this our joyful hymn of praise.

A Little Giving of Thanks November Second

John 10

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
30 I and my Father are one.

Praising

Have you experienced days when
it is easy to praise?
Songs rise to your lips and smiles
are in your eyes on those days.
God is good and thankfulness
just oozes from your pores
all day long.

Well, yesterday was not one of
those days, for me.

I had a little problem
with dizziness.

I had plans to take my
elderly father to town
and pick up a thing or two
at the grocery store,
but he called and cancelled.

My son had the car all day.

I had planned to take Dad
to town after he got back
from his other thing.
I called him.
He was busy with
something else.

I had planned to get
some stuff sorted,
cook,
do up the dishes
and feel like
I had a handle on things.

I took a shower
and went to bed
because I felt so weird.

Guess it was a good thing
I didn't go to town!

Uncle Si came home and,
after spending some time
with the car he drives,
came in to tell me
it wasn't safe to drive.
He is using "my"
car, today.

I started to feel better,
so I heated up a can of
soup for him and a can of
beans for me.

My son came home
from a long day
and was vocally
disconcerted by the
news about the cars --
very vocally and for
a long time.

He needed to vent.

I wanted to rest.

I had thought of a blog
post I wanted to do,
but when I went to bed
in the afternoon I
knew I would not
get it done.

Then I thought of this image.

I waited until this morning
to make it.

It's something I have
been learning
all of my life.

You have heard,
perhaps,
"God is good
all the time."

Well, it's true.

If you notice,
I had many blessings
yesterday.

My son and husband
both came home.

How many people
wish they could say that?

I had a shower,
food
and
a bed to rest in.

I am richer than
a great many people.

Then there is the adversity.

Do you ever thank God
for problems?

I forget to do so,
but when I do it is eye opening.

Thank You, God, for the car
problems -- just when
we thought we had the cars
almost caught up.

I don't know what You are
doing with and for us,
but I know it is good.

Thank You, Father,
for upsetting my plans.

I know Your plan is better.

Thank You, my Creator,
even for the sickness
that I probably brought
upon myself.

There is no time quite
like those spent
quietly in bed for remembering
You.

Psalm 150

King James Version (KJV)
Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.

Celebrating?

This is how Uncle Si
spent much of Easter Sunday.

We were both sick.
(Think macaroni & cheese for dinner.)
Uncle Si knew what had to be done.
A car was needed to drive to work
on Monday.
So, he hauled himself out there
and worked away.
I wish I could have told him.
"Have the work done."
I wish I could have told him,
"We can pay for it."
I wish we at least had a garage
for him to work in --
especially on Sunday!

27 years of marriage
and I'm still
finding out what a great
man my husband is.

Catching Up

It's been over a year since
my sister blessed me
with
this pair of pillow cases.

I love the colors.
(She knew I would.
She loves them, too.)
This photo is at least twice
the size of the real thing.
This curve is a little
smaller than my
little fingernail --
you know, the end of it.
The stitches are tiny
and beautifully finished.

I was overwhelmed with her gift.
I still am.
I have no intention of using
the pillowcases for everyday.

So, I put them away somewhere "safe."

You know the rest!
 I found them, again,
last week.
Thank you, Sister Grace!

Veterans Day Remembrance

Dad 1944 (?)

Dad 11-11-11
My father is back to.
He was walking along with me then
suddenly disappeared.
When I looked around,
this is what I found.

Giving Thanks

Obviously, the biggest item
on my "thankful" list is wrapped
up in God, the Father,
God, the Son
and
God, the Holy Spirit.

Our country!

Home!

So many blessings!
Here are just a few.
Thank you for sharing,
My friends, old and new.
