A Yearly Ritual

Can you tell what it is, that little spot
of orange in my picture?

This is a road near my home.

Every year somebody places a
pumpkin atop this rocky outcropping.
(Last Summer someone also put
a pineapple there!)

This year, someone added this
rather large jack-o'-lantern
to the little pumpkin.

I'm not sure what they intended.

From some angles it looks like

Jack is about to gulp the little one.

That was my first thought when I
saw it.  This is the angle from
which I first saw the little vignette.

This is the other side of said
outcropping, by the way.
The drill marks on the high side
are very plain.  This side would
hardly catch your notice, around here.

Oh, and this shot shows our car where
I parked it to walk back to take the
pictures.  The rise and curve would
tend to make a parked car a bit too
much of a surprise.

Objects in photo may be
closer than they appear. :)

Dear Dollar Deer

I think, if I had tried hard enough,
I could have left this paper mache
deer right there at Goodwill.

I think visions of creative mantlepiece
decorating and beautiful blogging
as well as
I-never-would-have-thought-of-that
crafting
danced before my dazzled eyes.

What does it matter that I have no
mantel and no decorating blog.
or that my house is such a mess
that crafting has become
problematic?

After all, how many dreams can be
bought at a thrift store
for one dollar? :)

Hairs Cut!

Yesterday (I think)
my husband, "Uncle Si,"
took our clippers and gave
himself a very short haircut.
He does this from time to time.

I asked if I could do the same.
He said, "No."
He knows that I want to get
my hair cut.
He does not yet know that today...
I decided it is time,

and then some!
I had been taking my straggles
back in a small "elastic"
and popping the ends back
through to keep it
somewhat neat and
out of my way.

Having secured an appointment,
off I went.
What a gorgeous day!

My favorite salon

was not really busy.
I was early, as the clock
clearly shows.

Reception is right next to
the "floor."

I like the cut.
I just look like that because
I'm concentrating...

and concentrating!
I think this shot took
five tries! :)

What? Why?

"What are you taking pictures of?"
"Why are you taking a picture of that?"
Well, I was taking a picture of a screw

and a salt shaker

from different angles.

Well, one reason might be that I
was entertaining myself while
Uncle Si was finishing his meal.

But the reason for the "odd"

subjects of the photos is that

I like to crop them

and fool around with

the color and maybe

crop them again,

try different stuff
and see what I come up with.

My Weird Sense of Humor

Whilst looking over the books at
Goodwill, this weekend,
I noticed these two titles
fairly close together.

First you read this one
and put it to use.

Then, you read this one to help
you deal with all those annoying friends. :)

The book I could would value
would suggest ways to keep from being
an annoying person.

Be Careful!

When I was a kid I felt a little
out of fashion.
It was my knees
and my shins.
I didn't have much for
scars or scabs.
One does not get
that kind of injury
from reading.
(Constantly)

Well, as an adult
I have aquired a
scar above my left
knee.
That was from a
shallow dive that
wasn't quite shallow enough.

I also dropped the
handle of a loaded
pallet jack above that knee
and came down on
one of my knees
when I dumped
my moped.

This all happened

Now, today,
I'm acquiring those
scabs that would have
made me so proud
in elementary school.

No sympathy needed.
I was turned around
to see what a noise
could possibly be
when I turned my
ankle and dropped on the
pavement like I had
been rehearsing for
it forever!

My ankle is fine.
My pride is recovering.
My leg doesn't even
really hurt.
When the oozing
stops, I will move
about fairly freely,
with few reminders
that I took a tumble.
This is a shame, really,
because a little
reminder to
watch where I'm going
might not come amiss.

Oh, well.
Maybe it will scar.

(Photo not for the squeamish.)

OK, I've Heard of This

I had heard of signs like this.
Yesterday, I saw one in a small
store in Maine.
I sure hope adults take them seriously! :)

Sometimes, I Like to be Different!

There is nothing very unique in
deciding to attempt to sell
some Tupperware on eBay.

It is a bit of a stretch, for a
packrat, like me, but many
people do it.

I wonder how many of them get bored
with taking "normal" pictures of their
Tupperware and...

start trying rather un-eBay-ish pictures.

Oh, well.  Maybe my pictures will help
to sell my items.

Eye! Eye! Eye!

I know!
I've been doing more than one post,
some days.
What can I say?
Sometimes I am like that!

Lotsa wrinkles!

Smudge tool - less wrinkles.

Just having some fun doodling
digitally, I guess.
That thing in my eye is the reflection
of the camera lens.
The last picture
(giggle)
makes me want to say,
"Mr. McGee, don't make me angry.
You wouldn't like me when
I'm angry."
:)
