Well, That Was Interesting...

There should be a photo of a loaf or two of my homemade bread, here.  Instead, I am filling time while waiting for the oven to heat by looking back to see what brought me to this pass.  (What does that mean??  Never mind, I've got to stick with my subject before I get to the point I can not stick with anything!)

It's not terribly unusual for me to get behind in just about everything.  Today, there were five slices of bread left.  It was past time to get some made.  Now, I do have a smallish heavy duty mixer.  There is running water in my house.  The oven lights without a match.  All in all, making bread is just a matter of getting it done.

I'm coming up on 40 years of making bread.  I've had to modify my recipe, lately, to accommodate a new way (for me) of eating, but my last two or three batches of whole grain, non fat bread were satisfactory, not only to me, but to my son, as well.  DH (Uncle Si) is not fussy.  He'll eat the failures without complaint.

So... today's batch not only got a late start, it decided to be sullen about rising.  When I realized this, I threw together a "cheating" batch, that has some unbleached white flour and (gasp) a little milk in it.  When I checked it, just now, I found that the first batch, though hardly photo worthy, has risen enough to bake, so I'm off to pop 4 loaves into the oven.

I do not think I will bother photographing them when they come out at midnight!  Uncle Si may have to just take half a loaf with him, in the morning!

Off I go!
