Snow and Soup

We had snow, for a change.

(For those not in on the
joke, we've had snow
often, this season.)

So I cooked carrots,

(nothing like a picture to remind
me that the stove needs cleaning - again.)

celery,

onions,

and potatoes.

Then I added vegetable broth,

bay leaves, basil and lots of parsley.

Most of the snow fell while I wasn't looking.
I was a bit surprised, this morning. :)

Dotty Doodling and a Little More

Snow fog and rain -- a little unusual in early January. :)

While eating breakfast I enjoyed a Perry Mason
episode that took place in Hawaii.

Completely uninfluenced by that (!)
I started this doodle.

I thought I would try one with just dots.
I think it's called stippling, but I think of
stippling with paint, so, well, I dunno.
A couple of dots got out of hand...

This evening I scribbled a design that looked
to me like it would be fun to color digitally.

It was.

Bits and Pieces, This and That, Plus Doodles

Thursday, the second,
I think we stayed in.
This doodle is from that evening.

On Friday afternoon Uncle Si and I drove to
the memorial service for my cousin's sister-in-law.
This was the condition of the main road.
We expect this condition on OUR road... :)

That evening, as I sat and doodled
I was thinking of Hilary.
I think I only met her once.
We were encouraged to wear purple
for domestic violence awareness.
Hilary's favorite color was pink.

Saturday's sunrise was lovely
(and pink.)

While Uncle Si was looking over a
used snowblower to buy,
I noticed this license plate.
I thought it cute and clever.

We ended up spending
most of the daylight hours
 going from place to place,
eating lunch out together
and picking up
some things we needed
 - and some we didn't
 really need. :)

I think the randomness of the day
showed up in that evening's doodle.

Some of the bits and pieces
on Sunday included removing
the tissue paper decoupaged
onto the canning jar votives.

The Christmas tree came down, too,
so I put some little bargains in it's
place.  The battery powered star lights
are from Dollar tree.
The deer and gazebo were both
from thrift stores, sometime in
the past year.
I may put a cloth under this,
but I needed to get it up quickly.

This is an attempt to show
how it looks in the dark... :)

Have I mentioned that I have kind of
thing for clear glass?  Apothecary
jars are high on my list.  I decided,
with only adults in the house, to put
a supply of bar soap on the shelf
in the bathroom.  Hopefully, my
guys will heed my warning to
take the jar down first, then open it.

Downton Abbey returned that night.
I watched the program about the actual
castle that ran before the show and, inspired
by the ceiling in one of the great rooms,
doodled this doodle.

Disclaimer:  I like watching Downton
Abbey, but please do not take this as
a blanket recommendation.
I have a fascination with social history.
Not everything in this program
passes my rather stringent requirements
for a program I would recommend
without qualification.
Frankly, those recommendations
are very sparse. :)

Doodling, Again

I bought a sketch
book, today.

It's Winter.
It's very cold.
It's time to doodle,
again. :)

I Wonder Why

...traffic was quite light, today! :)

We had some fluffy light snow
overnight.
Our driveway is particularly
treacherous with this layer
added to the smooth ice.

It's vacation for schools
and some businesses shut
down for a few days, too.

I kept my feet under me
and my car in the road,
but  it wasn't perfect for
driving, today.
Beautiful, though.
Just beautiful.
